Lanto came from a supportive family with very humble beginnings in Blacksburg, VA…

.

Throughout his childhood, his father owned a health-food store and mother was a gardener. At 8-years old, Lanto received his first set of golf clubs – a sweet surprise, coming from a family of non-golfers.

The next few years were among the toughest for Lanto, as his father slowly deteriorated from a brain tumor. Lanto fell deeper into golf, walking a mile to the 9-hole municipal course, “The Hill”, and spending hours practicing each day for just $9.

At this time, the former head pro at Blacksburg Country Club, Steve Prater, took Lanto under his wing as part of his family. When Lanto’s father passed, Steve granted Lanto an honorary membership to the Club and became a second father to Lanto.
